Circle Singers presents its Member Profile. Here periodically we will present some inside "scoop" on the life and times of one of our members. We hope to accomplish two things: First, to give a more human picture of the chorus by showing some of the neat people who participate; Second, to improve personal awareness within the group since we come from such disparate areas of greater Cincinnati.

If you look at the bass section of the Circle Singers, you will likely see a smiling fellow with glasses, thinning hair, and a white beard. Barry Hood is a sprightly 68, and in addition to being a solid member of the bass section, is also a member of two other local choruses.
Barry and his Wife Jane recently celebrated their 45th anniversary. They are also the proud parents of 3 children and 11 grandchildren. Although he has no formal musical training, Barry has always enjoyed singing and has been a member of the Circle Singers for 5 years.
Barry is retired USAF. During his 26 years of sevice he and Jane lived in Germany for four years and were able to travel extensively to many European countries. (Their oldest child was born in Weisbaden, Germany). Later in his AF career, the Hoods enjoyed a two year assigment to Turkey with their (then) teenage children. Never quite losing the urge to travel, since his USAF retirement, Jane and Barry have visited both China and Brazil and enjoyed a cruise to Alaska.
Barry is a graduate of Florida State University with a degree in management. Additionally, He has a graduate degree in Logistics from AFIT (Air Force Institute of Technology). Following his USAF career, Barry continued to make use of his education while employed with General Electric Aircraft Engines as a program manager working with the Israeli Air Force. More recently, Barry has been able to convert his lifetime hobby of photography to his third career as a photographer. In addition to shooting weddings, Barry also photographs families, seniors, models and special events. As noted on the Circle Singers website, Barry also did most of the website photography.
Barry and Jane spend much of their spare time swimming and reading. Additionally, they go on many daytrips with grandchildren in the local area and enjoy visiting other grandchildren and family members in Tennessee.
One might ask, how can someone with no musical training be a solid member of the Circle Singers?? The answer is simple….. as with all members of the Circle Singers, Barry really enjoys singing. And, as Barry has noted, sometimes the best part of our performances is the opportunity to mingle with members of our senior citizen audiences.
Without a doubt, Barry remains a key member of the Circle Singers. In addition to assisting the bass section with his strong voice, he has created numerous graphics used in Circle Singers advertising and fund raising. And, last but not least, as the Circle Singers Treasurer, he is the “go-to” guy when receiving or writing checks.
