Circle Singers presents its Member Profile. Here periodically we will present some inside "scoop" on the life and times of one of our members. We hope to accomplish two things: First, to give a more human picture of the chorus by showing some of the neat people who participate; Second, to improve personal awareness within the group since we come from such disparate areas of greater Cincinnati.

If you check out the bass section of the circle singers, you will likely see a smiling elderly gentleman with glasses, white hair, and no beard. Dave Underwood is a sprightly 68, and in addition to being a solid member of the bass section, is often called upon to perform solo pieces within a choral selection.
Married to fellow Circle Singer Soprano Ellen, the talented duo have been with the Circle Singers for 3 years. Although relative newlyweds, they are the proud parents of 7 children and 10 grandchildren.
Dave has enjoyed singing since high school where he was a member of the school chorus and county choir. Additionally, in his senior year he wowed the crowd as “Koko” in a high school rendition of the musical “The Mikado”. Later, as a member of the Wooster College Choir, he participated in The Messiah”.
Early in his career Dave put his graduate degree in chemistry to good use as a chemist with P&G where he worked in the Industrial Chemicals, Industrial Foods and Institutional Cleaning Products divisions.
Taking an early retirement in 1995 Dave now fills his spare time in a number of interesting ways. (A) as a safety consultant specializing in slips and falls, (B) engaged in various Tai Chi workouts, (C) Bringing his greyhound therapy dog “Tillie” to local retirement centers (D) gardening (E) visiting grandchildren in Chicago and Tennessee and (F) singing with the local Schubert Chorale, the Sharonville Chorus and, of course, the Circle Singers .
Without a doubt, Dave remains a key member of the Circle Singers. In addition to assisting the bass section with his great voice, he is also the Circle Singers secretary and enjoys making Karaoke CDs to aid choir members in practicing their part at home.
